THE WALKING ON WHEELS TRUST
The Walking on Wheels Trust was set up by Eva McCracken to fund the printing and publishing of her book, Walking on Wheels. The first book of its kind, Walking on Wheels is a guide for wheelchair and electric scooter users who wish to access and enjoy the Scottish countryside. All copies of the book have now been sold but all 50 wheel-friendly walks are available to download from the Walks page.
Fellow wheelchair or scooter users are invited to submit a visited New Walk - see guidelines on the New Walks page. The author hopes that all readers of these walks will be encouraged to venture out into our wonderful countryside, taking care to observe their rights and responsibilities as explained in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
All the routes described on this site have been visited by a person using a wheelchair or electric scooter. Where possible the information has been checked to take account of recent developments. As the work of land managers and service providers is ongoing some recent changes might not be recorded. Also, some minor changes due to natural erosion or growth of vegetation could have taken place which could affect the routes.
The Walking on Wheels Trust would welcome information on any accessible trails of 2 to 10 miles, anywhere Scotland. Once these have been visited by a person in a wheelchair they will be included in the New Walks page.
THE BOOK
The book is now out of print but all 50 wheel-friendly walks are available to download from the Walks page.
GRANTS
Book sales have generated income for The Walking on Wheels Trust and now the Trustees want to offer small grants (up to £1,000) to those not-for-profit organisations whose prime activity is to enable disabled people to get out on wheels and enjoy the countryside in Scotland.
